Formerly fine-dining chefs working in California’s most distinguished kitchens, Alex Pitts and Marty Winters founded Maître de Chai in 2012. Rotating between restaurant and winery roles, the pair have grown their portfolio of wines over the years through humble, committed care in the winery and cellar.

Located seconds from the San Francisco Bay in Berkeley, Maître de Chai (meaning “keeper of the cellar”) sources impeccably farmed old vine grapes from unique single vineyards in northern California across a range of varieties from Cabernet Sauvignon to Chenin Blanc.

Prioritizing a low-intervention winemaking process, Pitts and Winters highlight the ethos of the vineyard in every bottle with an emphasis on freshness and energy.
